Pink Beach Komodo

Pink Beach Komodo is one of the rarest coastal formations in the world, distinguished by its naturally pink colored sand. The unique hue is created by a mixture of white sand and microscopic fragments of red coral (Foraminifera), which blend together to produce a soft pink shoreline. Located within Komodo National Park, this beach is a protected marine and terrestrial conservation area.

Globally, only a handful of beaches exhibit this natural pink coloration, making Pink Beach one of the most exclusive and visually distinctive destinations in Indonesia.

Natural Characteristics & Landscape

The beach is framed by gentle hills and crystal clear turquoise waters, creating a striking contrast between the pink sand and the surrounding blue sea. The coastline is relatively calm compared to open ocean areas, making it comfortable for beach relaxation and water activities.

The clarity of the water allows for excellent visibility, even from the shoreline, revealing coral formations and marine life just beneath the surface.

Marine Biodiversity

Pink Beach is part of the Coral Triangle region, known for its exceptional marine biodiversity. The shallow reefs near the shore host:

  • Colorful tropical fish

  • Healthy coral gardens

  • Sea stars

  • Occasional reef sharks (harmless to snorkelers when undisturbed)

The calm, shallow entry makes it suitable for beginner snorkelers, while slightly deeper sections offer more vibrant coral formations for experienced swimmers.

Main Activities

1. Snorkeling
The primary highlight of Pink Beach. Snorkeling equipment is typically provided in Komodo sailing tour packages. The coral reefs are accessible within a short swim from the shore.

2. Swimming
The clear, calm waters are ideal for leisure swimming, particularly during favorable sea conditions.

3. Beach Photography
The pink sand creates a rare and highly photogenic setting, especially under bright sunlight when the color appears more vibrant. Drone photography further emphasizes the unique contrast between the shoreline and surrounding waters.

Accessibility

Pink Beach is usually visited as part of a Komodo National Park boat tour departing from Labuan Bajo. It is commonly included in 1 day or multi day open trip and private sailing itineraries alongside Komodo Island and Padar Island.

Due to its protected status, visitors are expected to follow conservation guidelines, including not collecting sand or coral fragments.
